Monophony: Music consisting of a single melodic line without additional parts or accompaniment.

 

Polyphony: Music that combines several simultaneous musical lines of individual design which retain their independence and are of equal interest.

 

Homophony: Music that has one melody of real interest being supported by an accompaniment in a chordal or slightly more elaborate style.
